It's bordered by Jan Smuts Avenue and the Braamfontein Spruit, with Main Street and Republic Road running through it. The drive to us is short and simple: Main Street to Dover Street, a few hundred metres of Bram Fischer Drive, then Bond Street, and you're at 6 Alexander St, Kensington B, Randburg. From the southern end, near Old Parks Sports Club, Jan Smuts Avenue becomes Bram Fischer Drive and brings you the same way.
It's a small, settled suburb, established in 1940 and named after the French city, which is why its streets carry names like Paris Avenue, Napoleon Avenue and Huguenot Avenue. Family homes fill the quiet streets, offices and shops cluster around Republic Road and Main Street, and Bordeaux Primary School on Evelyn Avenue adds a school run to the morning traffic. The knocks that follow are familiar ones: a gatepost clipped while reversing, a bumper nudged in a queue on Republic Road, a door creased in a tight parking bay.
